Achievement Hunt
Rules and Scoring

Summary

Are you ready to hunt for some ACHIEVEMENTS? Then join us for an Achievement Hunt: a first run of a new format that’s less about one-on-one competition and more about pushing yourself to hit your DDR peaks!!

Teams of 4 will have 50 minutes to play 5 sets of 3 songs (in event mode), any songs they want, aiming to get as many AAAs and PFCs as they can. The goal is to get you playing in your comfort zone, with incentive to push for your peak!

AAAs and PFCs have varying point values based on their difficulty, and these point values are adjusted based on player ability. For instance, if you’re regularly getting 14 PFCs, then an 8 AAA won’t be worth any points for you. But if you just got your first 7 PFC, then an 8 AAA will be worth LOTS of points!

At the end of 50 minutes, each player’s 5 highest valued scores are tallied and combined for a team total. The team that gets the most points wins and splits the prize pool!!! There will also be a prize for the highest scoring individual!

Teams

Each team will consist of 4 players. Each team will get unlimited access to 2 cabs without waiting between sets. However, whether teams want to split up into pairs and keep the same “P1/P2” pairings for the whole 50 minutes, or rotate partners between sets, is up to them!!

The way teams will be chosen is still TBD depending on how many entrants sign up, but we will do our best to make sure there is an even skill level distribution in each team. (and keep friends together if we can!)

Before each team begins, they’ll be given 10 minutes to figure out a general game plan (who pairs up with who, what folders to focus on, what their goals are, etc.) and then it’s GAMING TIME!

Start Achievement Hunting!

The rules for 50-minute gaming time are there are no rules: it’s basically a typical DDR session with goals!! You can play whatever songs you want with the exception of Grand Prix-exclusive content just to keep everyone on a level playing field. Aim for whatever goals you want, so long as they fall into your level range.

Level Ranges and Scoring

Based on player ability, players will be assigned a level range of 4 levels.

Level ranges are:

7 - 10, 8 - 11, 9 - 12, 10 - 13, 11 - 14, 12 - 15, 13 - 16, 14 - 17, and 15 - 18

This level range will be based on what your peak is. For instance, if Sanbai shows that you are just starting to get 15 AAAs, you will be in the 12 - 15 range.

In each range, the lowest level is considered tier 1, the next level is tier 2, then next tier 3 and the highest level of the range is tier 4. (i.e. If 12 - 15 is the range, 12 would be considered tier 1 while 15 is considered tier 4).

Each tier is broken into 5 parts based on the Sanbai tier list. They are:
Lowest (.00 - .30), Lower (.20 - .35), Middle (.40 - .55), Higher (.60 - .75), and Highest  (.80 - .95).

Regardless of range, the point values for the tiers are all the same as follows:

A new PB score will result in 1 bonus point.

In the event of running back the same song and getting a AAA one run and PFC the second run, the PFC replaces the AAA. One score per chart.

Players are not only allowed, but encouraged, to pick different levels of the same chart based on their goal, so that the song pick benefits both of them.

Players will keep track of their scores via a simple score sheet, quickly jotting down the level played and circling whether the score was a AAA, PFC, or a PB, and they will snap the end result picture at the end of each set.

At the end of the 50 minutes, players will turn in their score sheets to the TOs and send their set pics via discord. The TOs will tally the top 5 highest valued scores to calculate the total score!

Example 1: Team Matches

Let’s pretend P1 is in the 12 - 15 range, and they are playing with their teammate P2 who is in the 14 – 17 range. They are warmed up and are ready to pick something spicy, so P1 picks Space War and is hoping to get a AAA.

P1 picks the ESP (14.3 on Sanbai)

  • So because P1 is in the 12 - 15 range, the 14 ESP would be considered a Tier 3 song, and because it’s a 0.3 on Sanbai, it would be considered lower.

  • If they AAA it, they will get 8 points.

P2 can PFC Space War ESP in their sleep so in theory they could pick the ESP as well for an easy 3 points (T1 lowest PFC), but they are feeling spicy too, so…

P2 picks the CSP instead (17.15 on Sanbai).

  • P2 is in the 14 - 17 range, so the 17 CSP would be considered a Tier 4 song, and because it’s a 0.15, it would be considered lowest.

  • If they PFC it, they will get 24 points.

They play it and they almost get their goals!!

  • P1 989Ks it (the valley of sadness noooo)

    • this is sadly worth no points.

  • P2 Flags it, landing it in the AAA category.

    • They get 8 points.

They both decide to run it back.

  • This time P1 gets 993K!

    •  They earn 8 points!!

  • And P2 PFCs it!

    • The PFC replaces the AAA

    •  Their space war score is now 24 points instead of 8 points.

Plus they each get a bonus point because their scores are PBs.

Assuming both these scores are amid their top 5, this run just earned them 34 points for their team.

Example 2: Top 5 scoring

Sorry in advance, this is a lot of numbers, but let’s pretend that after their 5 sets, P1 got the following scores:

  • Set 1:

    • 12.0 AAA

    • 12.2 AAA

    • 13.5 985K

  • Set 2:

    • 12.00 PFC

    • 12.5 AAA

    • 12.2 PFC

  • Set 3:

    • 13.00 AAA

    • 13.50 AAA

    • 13.75 AAA

  • Set 4:

    • 14.3 989K

    • 14.3 AAA

    • 13.8 PFC

  • Set 5

    • 14.5 AAA

    • 15.0 980K

    • 15.0 989K

P1 is In the 12 - 15 category, where an 12 is Tier 1, 13 is Tier 2, 14 is Tier 3 and 15 is Tier 4

Any scores below a AAA sadly do not count, so two 15.0s, the 13.5 985K, and the 14.3 989K are not considered for score, even though the 15s are in the highest tier. This leaves 11 scores that are worth points. Of these 11, we take the top 5 based on point value (they have been highlighted). So looking at the scoring table…

So that’s the 13.50 AAA ( Tier 2 Middle, 6 points) +

13.75 AAA (Tier 2 higher, 8 points) +

13.8 PFC (Tier 2 highest, 30 points) +

14.3 AAA (Tier 3 Lower, 8 points) +

14.5 AAA (Tier 3 Middle, 12 points) =

Adds up to a total of 64! Also, 3 of their scores were PBs, so they get 3 bonus points and their total score is 67!

Winners

The team with the highest cumulative total is declared the winner and wins the prize pool to split 4 ways!!!

And there will also be a small prize for the player (regardless of which team they’re on) who got the highest individual score!!

And that about wraps it up!! Thank you so much for reading: if you think this sounds like fun, sign up, and happy achievement hunting!!
